Fish wanted

Paul how do you like your starry Blennies? I think that is what they are called. I saw one at Exotic and would like to get him for my girlfriends tank. I was just wondering if they are like the lawnmower? I have done some research and it looks like they will graze the rocks. Just wondering what your experience was.

I know Exotic Tropicals has had Personifer's on their list
recently. I'd imagine anyone in town could order you one,
but their going to be $$$$$$$$.

Dan, the Starry is cool. He jumps all over the tank and grazes on rock, the line lock and walls. Very personable fish.

I can order the Personifier, online for much less than the 399. One thing I have noticed about them, the pix of each fish vary in how they look.

I have seen Queensland Yellowtail Angels listed
as Personifer's online, which may account for
the discrepancy in photos.

Robert, pretty much the same fish, one the CHAETODONTOPLUS Personifier has a yellow tail fin with a dark blue/green stripe and the CHAETODONTOPLUS MERIDITHI is smaller and has a solid yellow tail fin.

http://www.marinecenter.com/fish/angelfish/personiferangelmale/ is $399 but look at that face!

http://www.petsolutions.com/Personifer+Angel-I-103900L-I-C-16211-C-.aspx goes for as low as $ 89.

I found that one reason for the color difference is the fish is changing from juvi to adult

http://www.amonline.net.au/FISHES/fishfacts/fish/cmeredithi.htm

Not near a pretty as an adult as a juvi.

If you don't mind the differences, I would go with the
Queensland Yellowtail because of the size difference.
I saw a Personifer in an aquarium last spring, at
it was about 16" inches long. I'd image it could
do a lot of damage in a reef tank.

Aren't you worried about him nipping at your corals?

Yeah, I am. I have a flame angel and he, on occasion, takes a nip but I think he is looking for micro algea and not eating the corals.

The one that The Marine Center has for $399 is an adult male so it should have the nice face coloration. The ones that typically sell for around $100 are Juvenile males or females and may never develop the spotted face unless you get a pair and even that may not do it. I live on the east coast and have never seen an adult male with the the full face colors.
True Personifer's are not easy to come by these days and 90% of the "personifer" that are coming in are Meredithi sold as Personifer.

I also had a flame angel the seemed to only occasionally nip at corals. I thought he was doing no damage as well. But when he died, several of my corals started blooming as they never had before. I have sworn off angels in my reef. I'd hate to spend $100-$400 for a fish that started tearing up my reef, even if its just a little bit at a time.

Mark, that is a very good point, we never know what it is like until we miss something or something changes for the better. I will probably not put an Angel into my tank (even though they are so beautiful). Maybe I need to set up a fish only tank........

Wow!!!!! I have never heard of or seen a scopas tang X black tang hybrid. And the price tag is a good indication of why.

You may also consider………………………… that is if you are entertaining the tang idea, to look at the scopas X yellow hybrid. Not as stunning yet a little easier to get and a lot easier on the wallet.

I was not going to post here any loger but I must say the the black and scopas is very nice but I would not pay that kind of money for is. The black is cheaper

I assume that are refering to a jaw fish. I have no problem "dropping the coin" just a different like in fish. My reef is well set now, I have grabbed odds and ends from around town but now I want to focus on my fish only. I am looking for big fish, I have some ideas I have seen some nice stuff. The only thing I have really wanted so far I can't have untill Feb or March. A large Zebra moray burried under some elses stuff. But thats ok, with as much as I am gone the time will pass quick.
