Fish Wish List

I'm planning on taking this very slowly, but I'm trying to plan the fish I want out and make sure they will be compatible and appropriate for my 55 gallon tank. Here's where I'd like to be in a year or more. I plan on starting with the Clowns. Your advice please:

2 x Ocellaris Clowns
2 x Yellow Tail Blue Tangs
1 x Flame Angel
2 x Bangai Cardinalfish
5 x Blue Green Chromis
1 x Diamond Goby

Thanks :)

Tim

I wouldn't put the tangs in a tank that small. I would only keep one in a tank of 70 or more gallons. I have also heard that unless you can get tank bred bangai they can be hard to keep. Other than that the angel may nip at corals so be aware and keep an eye out. I lost a very nice brain to a coral beauty that had never touched another coral before.

I so wanted to have some sort of tang in my 54. But the more I read about them, the more I realized that it was not going to suit the fish well. There's just not enough swimming room, and even the smallest will top out at around 6 or 7 inches. So that was out until the day I move up to a larger tank.

You should consider that fish need their space, and also that your tank will have to bear the bioload that those fish will create in terms of feeding and waste production. Good filtration can take care of the bioload, but the area of your tank isn't going to change.

It looks to me like you might be able to get away with all but the tangs, but I'm not all that familiar with chromis and their temperament and requirements. You might want to look into wrasses that are in the "reef safe" category - they don't get too large, are colorful, and for the most part will be compatible with other fish. I snagged a McCoskers wrasse in place of that tang I wanted, and he's just a great fish.
