Hi,
So I'm progressing along with a tank build (~210 plywood epoxy build, http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1253308&highlight=~210). I've nearly finished building a 2*6 stand and finished the epoxy on the tank.
I've been testing how well the tank sits on the stand and noticed the left and right side were touching but the center bowed up ca. 1-2mm at the most. With some pressure it contacts the plywood top of the stand and would easily do so with sand/water in the tank. I've been trying to get the stand joists as level as possible. I eventually ran out a bought a longer level. The stand top seems pretty level overall. However, I held up the level to the bottom of the tank (which I epoxied [fiberglass & 3 coats]) and noticed that it was somewhat wavy and probably the main source of the tank deflection.
So her is my question. I'm planning on getting the stand as level and its surface as flat as possible.
1) Should I sand the tank bottom to decrease the waves? The sanding should just remove epoxy/fiberglass and not wood.
2) Or should I just get some 3/4" or 1" styrafoam to line the stand top?
3) Or option 1 [smooth] & 2 [styrafoam]?
I haven't installed the glass yet so the tank can bend some (2mm down) without any risk of having the glass shearing away from the plywood frame.
Suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Kurt
