Flame Angel and clammies

I bought a crocea and a deresa from a group buy my reef club placed with clamsdirect.com
I recently added a flame angel to the aquarium. Do you think that he will be okay? I know it's hit and miss with them, but what is the general consensus so far with the flames?

i know i'm going to hear about it but ...... no angels are 100% reef safe, you may get lucky but?? i wanted to get one but after reading that they nip at coral ( both soft and stony ) as well as clam mantles i decided against it.

keep an eye on it and be ready to remove the clams if necessary ( easier to catch than an angel )

Just wanted to chime in. I had a 30G back a few years and my show "piece" was my beloved Flame Angel. I loved that guy! I decided to try my hand at a Crocea and the two got along nicely for more than 20 months. Then, out of no where, the Flame started picking at everything in the tank including my clam. Needless to say the Flame stressed the clam, my open brain, my Favia until they all went south. I was able to get the clam out early enough and give him to a friend. I can definitely attest to the fact that it's a hit or miss. And even whrn it's a "hit" things can change in the future. Just my two cents.

They're a 50/50 shot at best, but as stated above, they can just suddenly go on a killing spree after months/years of good behavior. The same is true of most angels.

Well, we'll have to see. I haven't seen him picking at any corals, however he does pick at the algae on the sides of the tank and on the powerheads. Maybe if I keep him well fed and keep some nori in there for him it may deter him from picking at the clams?

I'm not saying don't try, but even well fed angels can just suddenly become nippers. But, I would imagine a malnurished angel would be even more prone so such behavior.

I had one in a 55 with two big maximas, they never bothered them.
I fed the heck out my tank though and I think that sometimes can curb their nipping tendancies.

I had to get rid of mine after two years because he began to nip at my crocea.

A regular size (2-4") they are a risk to your "fleshy" invert parts. If purchased as a very young juvenile (1-2") There is very little risk of them being so nippy ime. Again the regular juv-adults tend to nip and maime unfortunatley.
