Flame angel questions?

I absolutly love Flame angels, and really want to get one but have a few questions first.

1. Unfortunatly I also love Zooas, and would like to get a lot of them for my reef at some point, what is the chance that the Flame will kill them? (I understand that they are the most likely to be bothered)

2. Assumming I get a healthy specimin that hasent been caught with Cynide, how hardy of a fish are they?

Any tips on keeping this fish, and your experiances would be helpful.

My took out all my red zoos so did not try anymore with them. Mine was a picky eater at first so I just offered everything till it found what it liked. Maybe because it was full of red zoos. Now he will eat anything offered. Really loves spectrum pellets and mysis.

I bought mine from a local reefer who had it in a tank for 2 years without problems. I have had him for a month and have not seen any evidence of picking at any corals. He is a big pig and very active in the tank. I am really happy with him.

My newest flame angel (my last one dies back in 2004) is almost 2 years old now. He started eatting right away. IMO they MUST have some "greens" so I feed my tanks lots of nori and formula 1 & 2.

He has never touched any zoos, or any corals for that matter. :)

Also Im really paranoid about cynide poisening, has anyone gotten one anywhere near Greensboro, or Durham, NC specifically Aquamains in GB, or Triangle Tropical in Durham, how about PAW in Lynchburg, VA? Or if not mabye somewhere online that you know doesn't sell ones caught with sinide. I was thinking mabye liveaquaria. Any thoughts?

My Flame is the devil its has picked at my LPS and now my clam. I can't catch that SOB unless I tear down the tank, sooo I think I am going to choose coral to suit the fish.

Well what coral would "suit" the fish? I know I definatly want a bunch of Zoos as I said earlier, mabye some LPS if I have enough light, we'll see SPS is out of the question right now.

hi,
my flame angle eats ANYTHING. i'm happy with it, only it loves to pick on the "this coral":

hey clayman,

it must be because of its medula oblongata :D

Mabye it needs so "High Quality H20" :)

So I think im gonna risk it, im willing to tear the tank down in the future if he bothers the corals I add, so if I have to get him out I guess I will, but I hope not.

So now I re-ask, has anyone bought theirs from any store near Greensboro, NC, or Lynchburg, VA or any site online, I just wan't to make sure I don't get a cyanide caught one.

bought one yesterday, shes in quarantine. I got my LFS to feed it some frozen food because its wild caught.
2nd day and shes seem to be doing well, shes a little picky on mysis shrimp tho, hopefully she'll be eating wider range of food before she moves to the main tank.

hmm hope she dosent turn on my clam =\

Good luck shockdude, I think Im gonna go for it, once I get some cash, and the current resident moves out of my QT.

Sounds like you have made up your mind.

Not to preach, but the only way to assure that your Zoos don't get eaten is to not put them in that position. Like so many fish that are tagged as "with caution" in regard to reef compatiability it is truly a 50/50. Even if the Flame is reef friendly for years he may wake up one day and decide to eat them.

As long as you are prepared for the possability that it may nip at your corals I would say to get it b/c they truly are a beautiful fish.

Well I never quite make up my mind. I used to be indecisive, but now Im not so sure :) But I think Im gonna go for it, and ir it starts nipping at future corals, well I cross that bridge when/if I come to it but hopefully wont have to. Im willing to risk it, as much of a PIA as it would be if I need to tear the tank down if he/she develops a tatse for future corals, I will. I think it's a small price to pay for such a beautiful fish. Hopefully it will never come to that.
