flame angel?

Hi guys I have a 100gal FOWLR tank with a dogface puffer, Aussie Harlequin Tusk and four yellow-tail blue damsels.

I want to get at least one herbavore in there to finish it and wondered what you guys thought about adding a flame angel. Maybe a yellow tang too. My concern with the flame angel is they are pygmy angels so he won't grow as large. Will this be a problem with the other fish growing so much larger? They aren't mean fish(yet) but I just want to get people's ideas before doing something that could possibly fail. Does anyone have a flame angel with a harlequin tusk and dogface?

If the flame angel isn't a good idea(I've heard about them dying at a high rate lately) I want a flame hawkfish.

Last question is what do you think about adding a very small niger trigger to the mix? I know all about niger triggers but should I chance it? I'd add him last and make sure he's a very small one, half the size of the others....

Thanks for ideas. Knowing people's experience really helps.

what are the sizes of your puffer and tusk? if they are still fairly small, you could probably get the flame and be fine, as they wont see it as food, but if you throw a small angel in a mix w/ big fish who could fit in its mouth, you just gave your puffer an expensive meal

I would get rid of the damsels before you add the angel or a trigger. They can cause problems, and gang up on smaller fish (such as the flame angel)

Yeah getting rid of damsels in a big tank full of rock...FUN TIMES! :D

Actually if I add the trigger they will get their butts whooped on. Trigger will look at them as food. I was going to add the trigger to keep them in line!

The Tusk is about 5-6" and the puffer is smaller at only about 3-4"

I think in the end I'm going to get a yellow tang and small niger trigger. One herbavore to help with algae and one niger to keep the damsels in line.

my tusk never bothered small fish in my 120, ever, for the 3+ years I had it (gramma, clowns)

IME dogface puffers, especially smaller ones in bigger tanks, are pretty well behaved. if you get a larger flame, it would probably be okay. personally, I prefer coral beauties, and think they are a bit hardier. there are a few dwarf angels that get larger, maybe add one of those that has a good survival record.

for an herbivore, I'd recommend a foxface or rabbitfish. if you like yellow, I'd add a foxface lo. they are less territorial than yellow tangs, yet can stand up for themselves. they are also hardy and moderately priced.

I'm not convinced a small niger will bother the damsels. I have a small niger trigger in a 55 gallon tank. It was last added, and is about 2.5-3 inches. I'm hoping to grow him out to put with bigger fish in my 210 later. He has not bothered any of my fish and has been a model citizen, so far. The trigger is with a small rabbitfish, green wolf eel blenny, pair of waspfish and an angler (who needs to be moved soon, he is almost big enough to think about going after the trigger). I was concerned about him picking on the angler, but so far, it has ignored the frogfish.
