I just added a Flame Hawk this past Sunday. Last night I got home from work and found my male Maroon(part of a pair) dead in the back corner. No apparant disease and healthy as of Sunday night. My lights don't come on until noon, so I don't see the fish in the morning. Checked all my parameters and everything is fine. My alk was running low(6.4), but I have started to adjust that up (slowly).
Today I get home and I am feeding when I notice the Hawk darting at my Cleaner Shrimp who is hiding behind a rock. Then I notice my Peppermint Shrimp is dead on the sand in the same general vicinity as the clown from yeasterday! Neither the Shrimp or the Clown looked to have been eaten or anything either. His fins were a bit bare at the ends, but I wasn't sure if that was from him laying there dead all day...
Could the Hawk have killed the clown and the shrimp? I didn't even think of the Hawk with the Clown, but now I am wondering. Adding the Hawk is the only thing that has changed. I knew that the shrimp could be at risk, but read differing accounts of that.
Just wondering is anyone else had any similar experiences. Thanks!
