Flame Hawkfish with Fire Shrimp

Hey guys...so I have a 90 gallon with lots of LR...my smallest fish is a 2" Tanaka Pygmy wrasse. I have lots of hiding places, caves, etc. I currently keep a Tomini Tang, LARGE Scissortail dartfish (5"), medium size blue assessor, and pink skunk clownfish. As some may know...I had a yellow clown goby for about a year and recently took him out because he was devestating my SPS corals :(. My MAIN concern is my Fire Shrimp, he is medium sized...about 2-2 and a half inches...decent meaty size for sure. Been in there for about a year now, and I got him when he was a baby. Seeing what you guys think of adding a flame hawk...personally on my end I'm more worried about the shrimp more than anything. I have snails, hermits, Blue Lincka, and red formia sea star as well, thanks everyone :).

My flame hawk destroyed several dozen peppermint shrimp over the course a few months. I put. 50 in my 180. And I swapped tanks approximately 3 months later and I had 8 left. The 8 I put in my new 93 gallon tank I saw the flame hawk ripping them to shreds after the lights when out one night.

I have a few aiptasia again. Want a flame hawk??

Well...I was thinking of it...but I have a beloved Fire Shrimp which is medium sized and I'm quite concerned that it will eventually "shred" it apart at night like you said, ESPECIALLY because I keep a low nutrient tank and I dont "Overfeed" my fish...so I'm concerned like my cat that it will ALWAYS have that yearning for food! Mainly the shrimp...

My flame hawk hasnt hurt my shrimp (cleaner and peppermint) he just swims all day long they been together for 5 months shrimp were added first

I never had an issue with Blood or cleaners with my flame hawk pair in my old 95g tank. It think it all depends on the fish.

Thanks everyone...I did some research from older post regarding this same question basically. It seems that from what I gather if you have a medium to larger shrimp and you buy a small flame hawk...or any hawkfish I suppose that while yes, short term it will be fine, however when the fish gets larger...mainly larger than the shrimp there is a slightly...to larger risk that the fish may decide that the shrimp is dinner one night. Talking fire/blood, and cleaner....not sexy shrimp and other ones. I would be curious if anyone has had accounts on here of one eating there blood or cleaner.

Im sure how frequently you feed your fish may also be a factor...I think with a low nutrient tank like mine, and light feeding schedule I think I will pass...on side question, do cleaner shrimp get bigger than fire shrimp, because I seen some HUGE cleaner shrimp one time in a tank! They were massive.

IME, my Cleaner shrimp are bigger than my fire shrimp. My fire shrimp are also more reclusive, FWIW.

Yeah...mine use to come out when I first got the tank and I only had a scissortail dartfish, now he only comes out when I fed the tank. I sometimes think he's dead lol. But he always hides in his little spot in the back of the tank. Pretty though! I sometimes will target feed him for the hell of it. Yeah me and my gf was at this event in a science center and they had 2 giant cleaner shrimp. I mean them things had the girth of my thumb at least 4 " long! I was shocked...see if my fire shrimp got that big I would feel comfortable adding a flame hawk lol.

I added my coral banded shrimp after my flame hawk, but the arm span of the CBS was significantly larger than the hawk. They have been together for over 10 years without an incident.

I wouldn't risk it with your fire shrimp. Too small in comparison to a hawk.

Huh...yeah see I feed once a day slowly, and do a water change once every two weeks. Im forced to run a small sump because my tank is taller, and I don't run a refugium or anything like that. Luckily I have lots of LR and my fish put out a small bio load because there mainly small fish. I purposely have my tank set up to run a relatively small bio load because I'm in the military and don't want my gf to be expected to feed the tank twice a day like if I had an anthia or something like that...
