Flame scallop in an established tank

Hi. I'd like to hear the experiences of people who have put flame scallops in their established tanks and who regularly feed plankton. I have a year and a half old tank with SPS and I feed phyto and golden pearls several times a week. Has anyone with an established tank had one? How did it fare?

i've had quite a few. they need some dirty water to prosper. if you DT your tank enough, you may be successful. I have never kept one longer than 3 months. sorry

THe word is that their natural lifespan is about 3 years and most that are collected for the trade are around 3 years anyway. 95% of them last 3-6 months in aquaria. If you feed haevily they might live over a year. Probably one of those "best left in the wild" animals. GOod luck! :)

I wouldn't have thought that you're feeding anywhere near enough for a flame scallop. My tank gets fed live phyto, Marine Snow, Marine Extra, etc. - fourteen times a day (by dosing pump, not by me!). My flame scallop has been in the tank about four months, and still very lively. He moves around occasionally - his biggest move was from rightside up under an overhang to upside down on the roof of a cave about six inches away. That's where he is now, close to a tubastrea colony which I hand feed. He snaps at me if I touch his shell by mistake!

i have 3 scallops (flashing, red, and white tentical) i've had them from1-4yrs...i feed dt. main thing with them is feeding and don't try to move them. yes sometimes they move to the back of the tank and then to the front but people get PO when they can't see them. but i've had really good luck with my scallops

i'm gonna buy a couple soon
i figure they should do fine since the clams i already have in their are usually crapping something out which means that they are eating something from the water(this happens when i haven't fed phyto for a couple days, and i don't feed too heavy w/the phyto either)
