Flame wrasse pair - Flukes?

I believe (or maybe can't believe my eyes) that my new pair of flame wrasses have flukes. Going on for 2 days now and they're still eating so it's time to take some action. Head shaking, scratching right afterwards, a couple patches of discoloration, fins are not perfect but not too bad, there is some white stuff on the pectoral fins though. Could be ich, but I've not seen the grains of sand yet on the fins or body, but could be in the gills. Currently they're in a stable quarantine which is basically my old frag(less) tank that will get torn down. It does have live rock and sand in the sump. I'm leaving in a few days on a last minute business trip for a week...figures. So my options right now as I can't use copper in this system (reselling it) is to freshwater dip and possibly look into prazipro. Any other suggestions?

So after a bit more research, I'll do a freshwater dip today to see if any flukes do indeed fall off.

I would go with a good old PraziPro treatement. Some would suggest FW dip but I am not big fan of it as I've killed fish performing it, probably because the fish was stressed (even when ph/temp was in perfect match).

Plan on Prazipro regardless of dip test. It is a good preventative. Then plan on one of the non copper treatments if you treat for ich in your current system or transfer to a QT where copper will not ruin good rock and sand. IMHO putting any fish into the DT that can tolerate these or similar preventative treatments with or without signs of disease is too big a gamble.

Prazi-Pro may be the safest med we use. IMO, all new fish should be treated with two rounds of PP. there just isn't a downside. A FW dip may confirm flukes; but I never use a dip, I just use the PP on all new fish.

Going to run a couple rounds of API general cure. Has the same active ingredient as prazipro along with an antibiotic.

metronidazole and praziquantel

First dose is in. I'll add the 2nd dose in 48 hours. It can also be used as a food soak so I went ahead and soaked some mysis in about 1/2 tsp for 10 mins. Must've been tasty because they've eaten more this time than they have in prior days feedings. I've got someone that can come and do a water change while I'm gone. Hopefully this will take care of the problem as it was about $7/dose. I may just run another round the following week just to be sure.

First round of treatment was successful.. Just did a preventative 2nd round. I did this in a frag tank with a few pieces of coral, hermits, snails.. all is well.

Did you ever get rid of the flukes?

Yep.. after about a year the male got eaten by a starfish. Never really knew what happened, was away on business trip, came home and starfish was looking fat. The female eventually turned male and still have it.

Prazipro works.
