flame wrasse round 3

What do you think? Picked up 2 female flames yesterday. They came directly from the supplier. Both were acclimated to my 55 qt tank. Yesterday noticed gill scratching and head twitching. Thinking flukes here. Debating whether or not to use prazi right now. Usually i would wait until week 2 as i do not want to stress the fish out. Btw this is my 3rd attempt on this fish. Batting 0 for 3 so far.

PP is a very gentle med. Sounds like ich or velvet. These parasites aren't always visible. IMO, you're way too worried about "stress"; parasites can kill fish, the stress from treatment won't. (OK, maybe once in a blue moon; CMA). If this is a protozoan parasite, all fish in the tank will be treated. Was this fish in quarantine?

I am concerned with the stress of the fish since flame wrasses do not adjust well right off the bat so I was reluctant to treat. Everytime i have tried them they all do the head shaking and gill scratching then kick the bucket. They are in my 55 gallon quarantine with a pygmy wrasse who was bought at the same time. No spots on the fish or fins, eyes clear, normal color.

Just noticing the odd behavior. The smaller one hangs it in its cave and is acting pretty normal for a new flame wrasse. The larger one just lays down behind a decoration and breathes rapidly. It comes out to eat for a few seconds and then spases out head shakes and scratches its gills.

I agree with Mr Tuskfish, if you've got a fish with something that needs treatment, you'll be better off treating immediately. Also agree with Prazi being easier to take for fish than most other meds.

Do you currently see anything on the fish at all, or are you just noticing the odd behavior?

yes

I'm a real skim reader and miss a lot of important stuff, thanks!

No problem. I should clarify the thumbs up was for him having a QT. I see too many people here that complain of issues and don't QT.

rapid breathing and scratching sounds like ich, or velvet, to me...

I'd start dosing copper on them just to be sure.
