I just experienced the same situation. I had a goby jump early on in my first tank so I cut up a egg crate light defuser as my jumper insurance policy and everything went fine for two months then my big male Bartlett anthia started getting crazy and jumped twice (when I was home) right through the egg crate. A few days later he did it again and I wasn't home to assist him so he didn't make it.
I can't believe he could even fit through that thing. So now I'm using netting that I picked up from Carlos at the Aquarius. I would be shocked if something makes it through that stuff. Go to Carlos and he will hook you up with some netting, he has a huge roll of it right now.
