flameback angel picking - alk creeping up - is this inhibiting growth?

I made the unfortunate choice to put an african flameback angel into my SPS dominated mixed reef. LFS seemed to think the flameback and the cherub had a better chance at being reefsafe than the other pygmys so I gave it a try. I no longer see any polyp extension on my acros. Pocillapora, pavona, stylophora seem OK.

I am now trying to get him out. Not going so well. Day 3 with a fish trap. None of my fish seem interested...

I dose 2 part plus I run a kalk reactor. At the current dosing levels I was sitting quite happily at 7.5 dKH although I was still dialing things in. However, it seemed I was always low to balanced (i.e. drifting down slowly). The tank was rebuilt over Christmas so it is still pretty new rock and substrate. I have a build thread http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2238444

I just checked my alk as part of my Sunday ritual and it is sitting at almost 10 dKH. I shut off my doser.

My question is, is the picking inhibiting calcification/growth? The fish has been in the tank about 2 1/2 weeks.

My flame angel started picking at my acros and within a couple of weeks they were all dead he killed them all. I will never but any angel in another one of my tanks no matter what anyone tells me. So I would suggest doing what ever it takes to get them out or place coral in another tank if you have another.

I must have somehow been working with a contaminant in my kit somehow because I came home and tested again and got a dKH of 6 (tested twice today) which would be consistent with one day of not dosing. Sorry - I should have tested twice yesterday.

And I got the flameback today so all is good again:-)
