My lfs wasn't sure of which type of flasher this is. Any help would be fantastic. Also is there an easy way to determine male vs female?

Looks like a hybrid to me. Maybe P. flavianalis and P. filamentosus? Or possibly flavianalis and mccoskeri. Just guesses though.

The males are more colorful and usually have dorsal fin extensions but not in every species. The males also flash or intensify their colors and spread their unpaired fins when displaying to females or competing males. Generally the females are smaller and less colorful, and are striped and without fin extensions. Many Paracheilinus spp. females look similar to each other and are very difficult to distinguish with certainty.

I basically agree about it appearing to be a hybrid. First guess is a good one, but it is impossible to be definitive. Definitely a male.
