Flasher Wrasse Question

Im planning to add flasher wrasse to my tank. It's a 90g mix reef.

Im planning to get 1x male Filamented , 1x male Carpenter

Do you think 1 of each species will work and they will flash and not losing their color?

or should I get 1x male and 2~3 female of 1 type let say Carpenter.

I heard that if there is no female the flasher wrasse will not flash and lose their color over time. On top of that what about 2 male attack each other?? Please advise.

Ps. Also what about Melanurus Wrasse, im planning to get one to control pest in my tank. Will they be nice to the flasher wrasse?

I don't have experience mixing carpenter and flashers but think I heard it was ok. I have had 2 fiimaneted flashers at seperate times. Both males, never had females. Did not notice any color loss and both flashed occasionally at other fish. Think they will be ok with the melanurus. Both of my flashers jumped. One through egg crate, the other through bird netting. Make sure you have something to help keep them in. They will jump.

Good luck.

Actually, not. There is NO WAY egg crate will keep flasher wrasses in. Or for that matter, many other fish such as firefish. You need 1/4 inch holes to keep them in. But mixing flasher wrasses will work just fine. Personally, I would (and do) prefer a harem.

Yes. Egg crate is not very effective. I have also had a yellow wrasse that I could swear there is no way it could possibly fit through, also jump.

I was trying to maximize the flashing behavior. If I get a small group then I only have 1 male and he will be the only one flashing no? Now if I get 2 male then both will flash at each other?

Well I have two tanks of flasher wrasses, so I guess I have done this before. My answer stands: "maybe". Flashers will flash for a variety of reasons, eating, dominion, mating. But the second male may or may not flash the other male, and in fact NEITHER male may flash in trying to establish dominion. If you have a terminal male and a harem of females, he will flash.

What im asking is that if I decide to put 2 male of different type of frlasher together. Will they do fine or they will end up killing each other? like 2 male anthias in a same tank...

Oh, different question. I have multiple males and there are minor hassles occasionally but nothing worth worrying about. But they may NOT flash or they may. Now fairy wrasses are a different situation; some work, others won't.
