Flatworm infestation at LFS

I just bought some nice mushrooms at a LFS close to me. I let the damn things float in the bag and forgot about them for about one hour. When I came back to toss them into the tank I noticed something moving on one of the shroms. When I looked closer there were a whole bunch of these dots all over the shroms. This was when I still had them in the bag they came in. I took a bucket and some s.w. from my tank. Then I took the rocks with the shroms and shock the hell out of them. Freakin flatworms or some kinda flat snail like looking things all over the bucket. There must have been at least 70 of them about 1/8th" in diameter. After I did the shaking I took some RO/DI water and let the shroms sit in it for about 5 minutes. I think I have all of the freaky little buggers off but I'm isolating the shroms until I'm sure...

I'm not sure if I should put the name of the place on here. If you guys think that I should please let me know.

It may not necessarily be the LFS's fault and not necessarily their responsibility to provide you with pest free animals. They are only one of sometimes many stops along the way to your tank. It is their responsibility to educate you and your responsibility to research the correct quarantine procedures to protect your tank.

Name them if you want, or better yet, share your experience with others, as you have here, so they can learn from you.
 
I think it is their responsibility to provide us with healthy animals but I do understand that they can't check every single coral for every single thing...

I will give the store a call tomorrow as soon as they open to inform them of the infestation.

Everyone please check your tanks and please quarantine everything...

I would like to add that I do not know if these things were the good or bad bugs but I did not like he look of them at all...It's the 1st time I see something like that...
 
EWWW thats scary I buy from them all the time! I wonder if that explains the rash I have all over my arm:eek2:

Seriously I have learned my lesson lately, from the same place I am starting to dip everything and go back to a quarantine setup for everything new.
 
If they decide to do nothing about it I will let everyone know the name of the place...

UMMM, I know in the evening I have to build a wall... don't ask :lol: but i'm not sure during the day, give me a call or shoot me a pm in the morning/afternoon and see what I'm up to
 
the flatworms I had were a little bigger and the amber to brown color

disclaimer : this was like 3 years ago when I lived in North Dakota, so if anyone has stuff from me, dont worry
 
Don't name the store. Every store has flatworms, redbugs, etc...
#1- All reefers should dip EVERYTHING they get even if it's from a fellow reefer. That would eliminate a lot.
 
Justin, you are right by saying that we should dip but now that they will know that they have this nasty infestation don't you think that they should do something about it? I'm not saying that they will not but...

I was just informed by the owner that the tank will be treated as soon as they get in. Everyone can breath and buy stuff again. But dip your s@#% people...

I'm with you, and I think you did the right thing and contact the store directly.
 
I was told that the system was treated. I was there this morning and saw them treat a few coral. I did not witness the system being treated...
