Flatworms disappear?

Any reason why I used to have flatworms and now don't ever see any?

I mean...I've still got them, right?

All I have in the tank is a high fin red banded goby with a Randall's shrimp, neon goby (who is as fat as can be), a blenny (linear maybe?), a couple of big turbo snails, a red legged hermit crab or two, and about 800 asterina stars.

Maybe the asterinas ate them...


More than likely you got your nutrient/waste level down, so they can't thrive as well as they were...

lots of different fish eat them as well, really dont know what you have as far as that goes, but many fish eat them...

The same thing seems to have happened to my 37g at the house. I definitely don't have the nutrients under control (it's been on a top-off-only maintenance schedule for a long time now ), and I only have a single Banggai cardinal in there along with the purple mushrooms now covering all the rock, but I haven't seen a flatworm in months.

I wonder if they just die-out after a while? Kind of like cell-lines breaking-down with prolonged culture? Maybe they used-up whatever nutrient(s) they needed to grow? Maybe there's some kind of pod or worm that eats them? Maybe they're all hiding?!

The same thing happpened to me in my first reef tank (a 75). One of the recommendations you will see given when it comes to dealing with faltworms is just waiting them out and they will eventually die down or go away all together. While this doesn't work all the time it ceartainly does in some situations. Glad it seems to have worked in yours

my daughters tank did the same thing, flatworms near biblical porportions then gone. I added a sixlline but I have never seen it eat one, maybe it does who knows

Awesome, so they might be gone then? Huh...interesting! I would of course tell someone about it prior to fragging anything, not that I have anything to frag.

I had the same thing happen to me. But I blamed my peppermint shrimp that I had added. I'm fairly sure it was them that took a liking to the flat worms.

Neat. There is an algae like this in fresh water...Green Dust Algae. The worst thing you can do is... anything and the best thing you can do is... nothing! It goes through it's life cycle in a bout three weeks (when you can't even see in the tank) and then...it's gone! Hopefully flatworms don't try my patience in SW...!

That's funny. I guess there are many things in the world like that. There are several medical diagnosis that are that way. There is one type of tumor in particular in dogs that you need take out quick or it will dissappear:eek1:
