Float switch & ACII cable

I thought I understood how to hook this up, but now I am a bit confused. If mini din 8 pins 1 & 2 are the switch input and output, then you just hook up to them in the db9 case. The issue I find is that pin 8 in the DB9 is is the switch out and soldered already. Are you to cut that and redirect it to use on the float? If so will the Aquanotes still work? OR, do you leave the wire on pin 8 and solder to it for the switch. I would hate to cook my laptop experimenting with a poor owners manual on the ACII.

You need to leave pin 8 in the DB9 connector or the serial isolator will not work. Connect the float switch to pin 8 of the DB9 (brown wire), and to the unconnected switch input wire in the DB9 connector. You can't really break anything by wrong connections on these pins. All have short circuit protection.
