Float valve in display tank?

Has anyone used a float valve for top-offs in your display tank if you dont have a sump? If so, what method did you use to attach the valve?

tunze's osmolator uses a ligth sensor and a float switch for their auto top off systems, pretty small stuff, it just's mounts on a lateral plastic bracket that hangs off the side off the tank.

I have one in my overflow as a safety shutdown for my return pump. I just made a small bracket and screwed it to the top trim.

I know of a couple of people with float valves in the display tank for ato. Works just as well as in a sump other than you might have to look at the valve. Now when installing it you will have to be a little more careful in how you mount it so the livestock will not be able to effect the vavle easly.

Good point Kim..

I would recommend that some sort of cover be fashioned to prevent your livestock from even touching the valve. I used a small acrylic box with holes drilled in the sides to allow water in but keep snails and stuff out.

Did you use the 12V relay from autotopoff dot com when setting this shut-off switch?

heres what i did on my 15 gallon. made an acrlic holder and used a 1" union as the guard from inverts. just drilled a bunch of holes to allow water to pass. works great.
