Floating Canopy Advice?

I'm looking to build a floating canopy for my rimless tank because the glare created by the leds while watching tv is becoming unbearable.

I'm not too sure on what material I should use, since I'm thinking the lighter the better since it's going to be suspended.

Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated!

What style/look are you trying to achieve?

The lightest possibility would be just building an aluminum box frame for the structure.
Mounting the lights and hanging hardware to the box frame.
And then skin it with a laminate.
They have laminates with a wood grain appearance, or you can choose from hundreds of colors/styles.

If you have access to add more support above the tank, you can hang quite a bit of weight.
My canopy system weighs at least 80 pounds (without the light fixture) and I have no fear of it coming down.

It's a good looking canopy. Floating canopies look best when they're a bit smaller than the tank footprint, IMO.

A 1 x 2" framed canopy skinned with 1/8" ply is very light... Thats what mine is (though it sits on my tank, not suspended).

As long as you properly hang whatever you end up making, you can pretty much hang whatever you want in terms of weight. Lighter, however, may be easier.
