Floating Crap In Water...it Never Ends

After man failed attempts at crystal clear water... I'm stumped!

Here's my set up.

I got a 30 gallon nano..about 35lb of live rock. A CPR Aquafuge PS Hang on Back refugium with some chaeto, live sand and the like. This refugium has a built in protein skimmer that seems to be doing ok. As far as flow goes,
I have a koralia (400gph), and an Aquatic Garden 600 Powerhead.

I've got corals, mostly beginner stuff..some shrooms, kenyas, zoas, buttons. I have about 20 hermits, and 20 snails.

Live stock, i've got 2 clown fish and a 6 Line Wrasse and do weekly 20% water changes...

but despite all this, i still have floating crap in my water. looks like white "speckles" like sand, but much much finer. What am i doing wrong?

my powerheads arent blowing the sand...so what is this crap, and how do i get it to go away?

The type of filtration you are using is a good choice for a reef, it is not the type of filtration to take all of the suspended matter out of the water column. Depending on the age of your aquarium, this may be a good thing, the ocean has little pieces of organic matter floating in it too.

i'm not sure if that's an option, but the skimmer has a fair amount of impact on that. switching to a better skimmer in my case definetely improved the clarity of my water...

ymmv

i would say micro bubbles from your skimmer shut it off for about 2 hours and see if it clears up if so that is your problem

good luck
