Flooring Recommendations for 180g

Hi everyone,

I need your help. You see, I have an Oceanic RR 180g bowfront. I Love This Tank! I have it located in my home on the main first floor. My house was built on a concrete slab. I am upgrading my system as I tore it down when I changed my flooring from carpet to laminate hardwood. I chose this floor type as it is a nice look, economical, great against scratches by children as opposed to 100% hardwood flooring, and it's better for those who suffer against allergies.
Here's my question:
I know my house foundation will support the system, as I had it running for over 2+ years. However, I am changing my stand and canopy from the black plastic canopy and black stand that came with it to a custom wood stand and 12" canopy. I wanted a more custom look and with the current black plastic canopy I can not use metal halides. With this custom canopy, I can run Metal Halides.
Is there something I can do to prevent any possible water leaks onto my floor? How can I protect my laminate flooring and wood stand against possible leaks? Will the laminate hardwood cave in due to the weight of the system? The flooring was professionally installed. What do you guys do for added protection? I have heard I could place a rug underneath the stand. What do you think? I don't expect to flood my home, but you never know what can happen. I would appreciate any help you can provide. I really like this tank and I want to continue using it for many years....or at least until I can afford that 1,000 gallon system.
