Flooring support for a 200 gal elos

Is there any need to change or add flooring support in a standard room of my home, 1st floor to support the weight of a 200 gal tank and sump?

Yes and there is a crawl space under the aquarium room. There are wood I shaped cross beams under the floor.

I had a structural engineer come out and design a floor support for my 180 gallon and sump, because based on his calculations the load would have been too much for the floor to support.

The project was not cheap by any means and may have been a little overkill, but it gives my wife and I total peace of mind about the tank staying put and not appearing in the basement one day and have us come home to a hole in the living room.

I think my situation was a bit different. My tank is placed along an exterior wall, with the floor joists running parallel to the tank and with a finished basement underneath.

The reinforcement consisted of sandwiching the first 2 floor joists along the entire living room with 2 additional joists on each side, as well as adding 2x10 cross sections under where the tank would be placed in the room.

One end of the joists goes to the end of the house, and the other rests on the steel beam and was also reinforced with 2x4s and a double toplet under the joists.

I guess I will never know if it would've failed but it wasn't a chance we were willing to take!

Hope this helps.

Regards, Itay.
