Flow and coral

I use the Maxi-Jet 1200 with the Modification. Two weeks ago it started the grinding and kept locking up. I pulled it out, got mad, and replaced it with the original parts. Two weeks later I noticed my candy cane and frogspawn melting away. My swifta sea fan would not open either. Too late to save the frogspawn and the candy cane but the fan seemed to have a little life left. My other fans and coral are fine. Anyways this morning I was able to work on the maxi and got the modification head to work. With in two hours the swifta opened up and looks good again. My question is was the change of flow what killed the other two? Please let me know what you think.

Really doubt flow had anything to do with the death of your corals.. Have you tested your water? Have you added anything new to the tank in the last few days?

Water tested ok. Have not added anything new in the last couple of month. I have one head of frog spawn from another piece of coral that is fine.

I agree I've changed flow on my candy canes and frogspawns many times with even the slightest problem. I would look else where for a problem.

What other flow besides the maxijet do you have? The flow from the maxi might have been keeping a toxin of another coral from affecting the hammer and candy cane. I have some mushrooms that affect the soft corals if they get too close. What other corals do you have that are close to the hammer that died?

Run some carbon for 2 days and see if there is a change.

Also, is there a grounding probe in the tank?
You mention powerhead locking up. I had voltage from bad powerhead stunt LPS.
