flow for clam

well today i upgraded my stock 24g AP pump to a maxi jet 1200. The hole in the clam...dont know the name sorry...has seemed to be a little more closed since the increased flow in the tank. Is this good or is it getting too much flow??? its completely extended and looks great i was just wondering.
