Blast or not blast. That is the question... I have 2 mp40's on a 180. Currently have them turned up to 60%. Should I go more, or is that too much. Any help would be appreciated.

Only two mp40s on a 180? Turn them up if you can. I use two mp40s and two mp60s on a 3' by 3' cube. I oh the 60s are turned back to around 75%

I use 2 mp40's on my 48/48 cube plus my goby gold return. Just bought an Christmas gift for myself too, a gyre. So we will see. My tank is walk viewable from 3 sides so it's hard to get flow all over, but I think the gyre will fit in good.

I am not in the school that says that more flow is always better. However, I do have quite a bit myself. I am an avid wavebox user - the back/forth does more than any flow pump could ever do. After the wavebox, I use a pair of Tunze 62XX (I forget) pumps as high as possible so that no sand will move or get disturbed. I turn over quite a bit from the sump and use Laguna in the 1800GPH into the tank size. This is on a 240G.

On a 120G, pair of 6105s, wavebox and 1200GPH to the tank.

For me, random and wavebox flow is many times more important than lots of static flow that is always in the same direction.

I also have a 180 with two MP40's. I still feel like I need more flow so I want to add something to the back/middle. I'm thinking a Gyre XF230. Would this be a good option or would a 150 be better as a third? Any other suggestions?

One thing I found interesting in that article was their target rate of nitrates. Up to 20...just shows they're many ways to skin a cat.
