Not THAT new to the hobby, been about a year now. Ish I'm on my second tank I started with a 4ft cube but Iv moved on to this 5x2 ft longer tank for more swim room. Had a couple teething problems but things I could work out by reading,

HOWEVER, I have always struggled with flow, or the placement of. Nothing has died yet and things seem to be growing I have upgraded my light fixture to a full spectrum 4ft LED. I have always battled brown sand and my water has been pretty stable.

I have played with the powerheads a little bit today after one fell off through the night. I knew they weren't placed correctly cos of the detritus build up.

Can someone take a look at my setup as it sits right now and tell me where the best place to put the 3 pumps. One on the left side panel is a wave maker but serves the purpose (I think)?

Thanks in advance

looks fine to me maybe place 1 on the side wall. Best advice I think I can give is to replace the power heads with some kind of wave maker jebao, echotech, eflux, (elux is what i use quiet, solid built and good value) lots of chocies. Random flow is the key.

I know that people point some power heads up for gas exchange and for shimmer on the water but from what I've experienced you can't really count that as flow, as those are not really adding to your current where it matters (in the rocks). Also don't know what size power heads those are and tank volume, so I keep my tank around 40X water volume. I would suggest pointing your power head down towards your rock and turn your return pump towards the surface! just a thought hope it helps!
