Flow in a fowlr

Hey everyone, looking for some help. If I put in the biggest Rio Hyperflow as a return pump will that be enough flow for a 125g fowlr? or will I need to still put in some powerheads?

must be nice haha, well I don't know that I want to spend a few hundred on powerheads, so I was hoping I could get away with just the flow from my return. Plus it would look a lot cleaner in the tank.

Unfortunately no. You could get an even larger pump and drill the tank to be used as a closed loop, but I think that is more work than you're looking to do, but it would look clean. In a FOWLR the powerheads aren't keeping coral alive, but they are providing an important service and that is to keep all the extra detrius and garbage in the water column so it can be skimmed out. In a FOWLR you are usually dealing with even more food waste so in essence they are important. Fortunately you don't need to spend money on expensive units that will provide wavemaker type results. You can easily get away with cheaper ph's and they will accomplish the same task.

You can certainly buy cheaper flow than Vortechs. But I was trying to show that you need some supplemental flow. Powerheads are usually much more efficient than trying to use an oversized return pump. And yes the vortech is very nice. Not necessary but nice

Ok ya I hear you sedor and thanks that makes sense. thanks guys looks like I'll be getting maybe two PH's. Is that enough.

I use 2 MJ1200 mod's in my 110g FOWLR. Tons of flow... not much money.
