Flow in your tank

I would like to know what everyone is running for water movement in there tank. As well what corals sps or lps dominant. What size tank and what turnover rate.
I'm wondering if my setup is way to much random flow going on. So I would like to compare to others.
I have a 180 running one dc12000 with 2 sea swirls and one wp60. Now I ordered a 2nd dc12000 to run on my closed loop and 2nd wp60 to run one for a few hours then run the other for a few hours to keep things moving in all directions. So any thoughts on this setup or should I downgrade to wp40's?

180gal tank
waterblaster 7000 for my return
2-MP40's (one on each end)

You've seen my tank - high profile reef with a mix of softies, sps, lps, anemones.
My tank is only 5feet long though, comparison should also include length of the tank IMO

hmmm pull up a chair for this one...

mine Johnny you have seen but for the thread

2 mp60s (one on each end)
8 1 in return lines from 2 reeflow super gold darts running in tandum 4 lines from each 4300 gal each with head loss thats over 7000gph turnover (both pumps run wide open and are not running any manifolds off them so they are 100% wide open for ruturn turnover, 92in cost to coast overflow ....

large fish load, softies, anomonees, lps, and now some sps

260lt tank or about 67 gallon
1 aquatopia 5000lt wavermaker I plan on getting a second one when I get into sps corals.
A zoa and hammer coral but the tank is still young. Plan to have a sps and lps tank with some zoas on the bottom:)

30 gallon, mp10 lagoon 100%, wp25 w2 mode, koralia 425, koralia 240, unknown larger koralia, ac70, aquamaxx hob 1. Tempted to just put an mp40 on there, lol!

I like stix;)

200G running on a Reeflo Snapper, 2 outputs on sea swirls. One MP40, one WP 40, both running 100%, reef crest mode. SPS dominant tank.

Ok that is crazy. Lol your turn over rate must be in the 100's lol

40-50x turnover rate is all you need for SPS as long as its random laminnar flow. LPS and softies, less.

Not sure how to calculate, but my milles love it. Nothing like a shaggy Mille being blasted by flow with polyps whipping around!

Believe it or not, if you saw my tank, it doesn't look like a ton of flow. I am running bare bottom for the moment, so I'm sure that helps;)

Yes your tank is very nice. This mix is what I am going for.

seen your tank multiple times and yes I think you are pretty good on flow. I would like to see your tank full of corals.

I am yet to see your tank. So do you think two wp60 instead of the 40's would be okay?

Never seen wp 60's, but if they pump like my wp40 (equivalent to my MP40), then yes. Your tank is smaller in volume than mine. I have 2 40's, your suggesting 2 60's. It might be over kill considering that you also have a closed loop to your advantage.

he also may be able to turn down the 60s where as he has to run the 40s wide open maybe a savings on electric possibly ....it will def give more adjustability by having room to go down and up on programing ...

90 gallon with 2 mp40's running at 40-50%. Quiet one 6000 return with and oceans motion sea squirt. Predominantly Sps with some lps and zoas

I agree. There is adjustability. With the twin Controller you can go from 30% to 100% power. So we will see if the flow is two much. Just seems like the more flow happier everything is. The fish love swimming up to the power head and swimming against the current.

62g cube mp10 at 100% lagoon/tsm/and reefcrest. and mag7. I want to add another pump but I don't know were to put it so that it from my built in look :(

4 tunze 6105 in my peninsula. only run them around 40% alternating side to side every minute. read a great article in coral magazine a few months ago stating that laminar flow the periodically changed direction was much more efficient than random flow. ive always done this but it has more to do with limited area to mount pumps than any thing else. i get great flow 7' from the pumps this way
