Flow Question

I have a ten gallon set up now. I have SPS in there and in the future I would like to turn the ten gallon into a sump/refugium and get a 20 long. Right now I have a Koralia Nano 425 plus a HOB Penguin 200 filter. So, a total of 625 gph.

If I hang the penguin on the ten after I convert it and put a 694 gph return pump in the ten to pump back up into the 20 long, will the 425gph Koralia and the 694gph return be enough for flow? From the pump location in the ten all the way up to the future 20 long return location equals about 45".

Thanks in advance.

Keep in mind that there is going to be some head loss on the return. Number wise yes, you have good flow. In your ten gallon I’d add another powerhead though. When you go up to the 20 gal it would be a good idea to “T” off the return w/ loc-line to create a more random flow. Good luck.

I want to add another powerhead, I just don't know how big of one I should go with. Should I add another Koralia Nano 425? Or go with something smaller for my ten now? It's the only way I'll get random flow in the ten, but I don't want to overdo it. I have LPS in there now along with some zoas and the hammer has been hard to keep happy with all the flow in there now.

Not a huge deal for frags but when they become colonies flow plays a major role, for now just some random flow will do just fine.
