flow

Definitely not too much for a 55g. Plenty of people would add powerheads for additional in-tank flow, depending on what they're trying to keep.

I think his question is pointing more toward if he has to much flow threw his FUGE with a mag 5. Hows your sump setup? all sump water flows threw your FUGE? mag 5 might be to much for the FUGE but not enough for the skimmer or tank flow.

fuge

my sump is a 29 gallon tank setup like the ones pictured on melevsreef.com. The water comes down from my tank overflow into the first section which is about 4.5" and contains a bunch of live rock rubble and the mag 5 pump for my aqua-c remora backpak skimmer. it flows over a baffle into the middle section(this is my fuge area) which is about 20" over a baffle under a baffle and then over a baffle and into the last section which is also about 4.5" and contains the mag-5 return pump. I have a full bag of live sand, some more rubble, grape caulerpa, broadleaf caulerpa, and chaeto in the fuge. Its teaming(spell check) with life but I just wanted to make sure that the flow isn't to fast to allow the proper amount of nutrients to be exported out of the water column. Thanks a ton guys!

As far as nutrient export i dont believe flow is so much of a problem or no problem at all. It mostly deals with pod growth i think. Pods and such need a nice quiet and calm place to reproduce. I think you can have flow with you design if the FUGE area is tall enough. Like if all the water flys across the top of the fuge but the bottom is calm and safe you should be good. Maybe you could make some little rock piles in there to allow the pods a safe haven from the flow if its too quick.

Wow, my reading comprehension skills aren't very good, are they? :D

I think integlikewhoa has the right idea. You have to look at how the flow is impacting whatever's in the refugium. If it's in constant turbulence and little pods are blowing all over the place, you probably want to look for ways to reduce the flow.
