i have a 90 reef and i had 4 power heads...now that they clog and are a pain i removed 2 that dont really work as good... i have a large pump for a fish pond that is got alot of flow can i use it and increase my flow by using it and remove power heads...

im not sure what kind it is but its a little bit bigger than a mag 9 and the intake and outflow are larger than the mag 9...

i was thinking bout the same thing ...i think

i wanted to get a large pump and have it suck water from the tank into the pump and have it like "T" or "3" way into different pvc pipes strategically placed around the tank (kinda stole the idea from the way Al has his except im not drilling nething (myself and tools dont work although i am a mechanic lol))

anyone have tips or ideas or thoughts about how to do such a thing

I switched one MJ to the new propeller mod and it really moves water now. a couple of those should work better than a big pump with piping. like 1600 gph? each with the mod. its smoother flow too. doesnt bother the corals and fish as much.

A pond pump may not have the best corrosion resistant parts. check the shaft and screws and stuff. otherwise should work.

i will take a pic of it tonight... i put it in a bucket in the bathtub and when i plugged it in it pushed the water to the ceiling... wow my wife was like *** bleep bleep bleep... haha she went nuts...

what tunze is good for me? the wave box? that thing is like $500 or $600

Yeah don't drill. Most 55 are tempered and will break. Although I did drill my 75 while it was full and standing upiright and I was not 100% sure it wasn't tempered. I did all the checks but till you drill there is no 100% of anything. Took a while to do the 3 holes had a little spray bottle to keep it wet while I drilled. The rush when I started was like crack only legal.

YOU CAN ALWAYS BUILD A HANG ON BACK SUCTION/DISCHARGE PVC PIPE CLOSED LOOP SYSTEM, AS LONG AS YOU BUILD IN OR ACCOUNT FOR PRIMING THE SYSTEM TO REMOVE THE AIR BUBBLE.

THEN JUST HANG IT ON AND PRIME AND FIRE IT UP. NOT MUCH TO IT.

THEY CAN BE PRIMED BY AN AIR TUBE FITTING ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF THE LOOP TO SUCK OUT THE AIR BUBBLE AND FILL THE PIPE. OR USE A POWER HEAD TO BLOW WATER INTO THE SYSTEM AND BLOW THE AIR BUBBLE OUT. EITHER WAY. JUST HANG ON BACK.

emonemo420 and tat2tillidie, Ken is right what your looking for is a closed loop system. Google closed loop or just search of it here on RC. Meleves(sp?) also has some good descriptions of closed loops if I remember currectly.

LOL!!!
"The rush when I started was like crack only legal."

Yea thats about right... I attempted a drill on my 55. I could have sworn that I checked the sticker and it said "bottom pane tempered do not drill"... It didnt... I imagine the detox from crack to be similar to the sinking feeling of stupidity and pain of cutting yourself on glass shards after the "pop" of the pane shattering...

yea... go with the closed loop HOB...
BUT I remember your tank being reef ready!?!? why not just get a stronger pump in your sump and run your return to the bottom of the tank (adding a siphon break of course!) ?

Sorry I hadn't posted the link, but looking back I was still in Bonaire on the 24th and it was 10pm so I was probably wasted.
