So I bought this really cool looking flower pot coral. My ******* thought it was a softie i asked and I thought he' said It was a softie. Got home got it acclimated did some research and now it's a Stoney coral?Last I check my water values were no where capable of caring for ,this fairly large peice let alone this other tiny Stoney coral I got for free today. Any thoughts on what to do?I plan on ordering some brs 2 part Tomorrow.

That's correct a flower pot aka goniopora is an LPS coral. If anything has a skeleton it's not a softie.

As far as having to dose anything just keep checking your parameters as long as they're in range you don't need to dose anything. I would however start using a reef salt if you're not already. I use and recommend Instant Ocean Reef Crystals, you can get the 200 gal box for about $49 with free shipping if you Google it you will find sale prices.

I've got a LOT of LPS and I still don't have to dose anything as my weekly 10% WC's keep it in range. Sure there is a slight swing but it hasn't been an issue.

Here is the link to my tank and you'll see how many corals I have and still not dosing.

^ Agree. You didn't mention the size of your tank or your current Ca, alkalinity or Mg levels. But assuming these are your first hard corals and they're not in a pico sized tank, they may not need any supplementation for a while if you keep a reasonable water change schedule. You'll need good test kits to determine this for certain however.

But levels could change soon enough. Dosing kalk or 2 part isn't difficult or expensive, especially since most start off doing it by hand. The materials are inexpensive if you stay away from the name brand oroducts - you may need to spend some equipment money when & if you decide to automate the process.

You need to get those up to par. Mg and Ca are way off. What salt are you using and what SG is your water?

Mg needs to be darn near doubled.

Also what else is in your tank that could be using that much Mg or is it just your salt mix?

Also you don't need to worry about two part but do have to get that Mg up. Kent's makes a very good additive for Mg.

Does this look like a healthy flower pot. When I saw it in the store it seems a lot fatter and not so stringy. Maybe not enough light?

Looks alright to me. Leave it where it is to light acclimate. What do you have for lighting, and was it under at the store?

If your Mg is that low I'm surprised that your ca is a reasonable level. Might want to double check that with your store.
