Happy reefing

not too long. I am target feeding with cyclopse and reef chili. It is placed where there is moderate flow. Hopefully I can keep him alive and doing well.

So what's your secret .

btw, nice goniopora fancyfish :). Glad your clown isn't beating it to death.

Manganese....Kent Marine essential elements has this. this is what is needed per bitis316. I will give it a try

I don't like telling people to use additives on this forum......That's why I didn't post it..But yes Manganese is what all of the large aquariums like the Boston aquarium, and others use for gona....Also again random feedings at 2am will help...Again I don't like telling people to use additives.. If you do...use sparingly..............Good luck to you all..

Additional Manganese dosing is not necessary. If you want to replenish elements, including Manganese, just do a water change.

Most Goniopora species remain pretty much retracted at night once they adjust to the light cycle. Best time to feed is early afternoon when they are fully extended or early evening (right after work).

yes that is a magnificant fox face. I love these fish. very pretty. The clown is not hosting in the goni. he pretty much has hosted either in my zoo's or believe it or not on top of my goby in the sand. for some reason the goby bugs him. Thanks again to all who have viewed. I use vita-chem and dose weekly. I must admit that on the day I dose the goni is huge!!

I agree..... But they also will eat at night.....Mine do..I have had two greens ones for years....But again...Maybee thats just meeeee. Also some reef salts do not contain enough if any manganese....It's not a typical element....Some do and some don;t....Find Sprung's email and ask him he'll tell ya....I promise....

FWIW, the Inland Reef Aquaria Salt Study published in Advanced Aquarist last year reported that all of the nine salts tested contained higher levels of manganese than natural sea water.

I've read of several people that have noticed a positive reaction with vita chem. As you probably know, it is more like a vitamin supplement than a trace element supplement. Try adding a tiny bit in with your target fed foods (if you target feed). I sometimes mix in a little super selco.

Great pics! So I'm new at this. Have had my 72 gal. running for about 5.5 months and just added my first coral, flowerpot. Tenicles have been out and now they are way in and it looks like coral skeleton. What should I do? Is this just it's way of getting adjusted to the tank? I'm a nervous beginner! Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Very difficult coral to keep alive long term. Especially in a new tank set up. (5 months is new.) I can't give you any spefific advice but John Kelly can. He also has a web site that may help you.

Here is the link.

I bought one approx. 6 months ago and managed to keep it (semi)alive for about 4. when the meat started to die off, I decided to scrub the decay away w/ a toothbrush and salvage the cool rock it was on. It was then tossed into the OF sump where there's hardly any light. After 2 months, I've noticed some new regrowth. Is this common and how would I improve its condition?
