Flukes?

I hear you on doing TT on one or two fish at a time. And I'd definitely do that, but when I put in orders from Blue Zoo or Live Aquaria, I always need to get groups of fish to make the shipping worthwhile... So unfortunately this is how it has to be done. I'll drop a dose of Prazipro in there and continue it through the TT process. Hoping for the best.

Has anyone else had bad experiences with Blue Zoo? The blenny was on sale and I wonder if perhaps he was the sickliest last fish from a group they were trying to get rid of. He really is ribbon thin. Perhaps internal parasites are at work too. In any case, I'm thinking I'll discontinue ordering from them. I've had at least one DOA or DAA (death after arrival within a few days) on every order I've placed from them. They're great about issuing credit, but come on...

I QT as many fish as I can get for a setup and QT all at once. I do so even as I buy from LFS and never order online.

I won't do TT in general unless there is a compelling reason such as when a fish is very senstive to copper.

Actually TT could work (with all the limitations) even if the bioload is heavy. One only has to robustly cycle a lot of more medium and use a portion of it in each transfer once. Yes, you can have quick nitrification setup with each portion of cycled medium used only once even in TTM.

Blenny looking better. Color is back to bright yellow. So I'm feeling better about him. Goatfish different story. Still breathing very hard and fast. Not eating. And he appears to have some whitish whispy stuff on his body. Will try to get a pic. All other fish look totally fine.

Crappy pics of course. You can sort of see the whispy stuff right at the point where the body color changes from purple to yellow.

Go blenny! (I really like midas blennies)

Sorry about the goatfish, i've never seen one before.

Would like to add that a slow drip acclimation is not a good idea, in fact a bad one. You have up to 30 mins to get the fish into the tank after opening the bag, as C02 and pH increases it converts ammonium in the water to ammonia and fish die from ammonia poisoning.

Thanks. Goatfish are cool. I'll need to find another one. And yes, I know the drip is not the way to go. This was actually the first time I ever did it (I usually acclimate for temp, making sure SG is close to the bag's reading, then plop fish in). I guess it's possible that Blue Zoo's recommended acclimation protocol is what stressed the blenny and goatfish so badly. Won't do it again. And next fish order is LiveAquaria or Divers Den!
