Fluval Edge 6 gallon nano

I needed something to sit on my very boring desk at work, so I picked up this Fluval Edge last week.

I got it used, and the guy already had the 13w light. I don't like where it sits, so I will probably end up gutting it and retroing it into the square "hood" on the edge, along with some LED supplementation. I will try to update this thead as things progress, for now I am waiting out the cycle.

if you want a quick fix while you wait for your led's you can pick up one of those 50/50 bulbs and with a cheap socket they fit in the top.. thats what I did and it looks good while the real lights come in.

If i brought mine to the office..man... I would do absolutely nothing all day.. haha

Looks very nice by the way!

I have my first official sessile invertebrate living in the nano. But its too soon!?!.. you may be saying to yourself.

Yep, its an aiptasia. It looks like one of the first things going in this nano will be the peppermint shrimp I currently have exiled to my refugium at home.

I am likely going to retro this 13w CF into the hood, and possibly add some supplemental LEDS. Depends on what time and money allow. I most likely will not go full LED like I have seen some people do with this little Fluval. I love the look, but do not feel like dumping $300 or more into lighting it.

I was just looking at the Panorama. It is 12 inches long, but I thought about getting one and breaking it in the middle, and retroing the halves into the hood. My wife would kill me if I bought a $100 fixture and then broke it, so that is on hold until I am sure I could split it in two without ruining it. I really like the "box of water" look that this tank has, so I am trying to keep everything in the hood.

eh that's kinda risky, lol yea that probably wouldn't go down well. i mean i have the panorama on top of my fluval, and its not very obstructive to the whole cube idea. i wish i could have found something economical to use which would fit in the hood, but alas, life isn't fair

Update

Its time for an update. The little Edge is starting to look like a real aquarium.

So the camera phone doesn't really do it here, but the tank is lookin decent. I have 3 aiptasia that I can now see, I will be bringing in the peppermint shrimp tomorrow (if I get up early enough to catch him in the morning).

I also picked up a little firefish as my first swimmer. Waiting a month for the tank to cycle wasn't too hard for me, but some of my co-workers were about to riot. They all had Outlook reminders pop up the very day one month was up, and the next morning I came in to find a stickie note on the tank with a picture of a fish. So I did a water change, tested the levels, and now we have "Bullit". Yes, spelled like the movie, not the pojectile. This is the best shot I could get of him with my phone.

I have thrown in some random softies from my reef at home, a few snails, and one lazy crab. Im still working on the lighting, I think I will retro in the 13watter, and try a 6w stunner laid flat across the tank where the 13w fixture sits now. We shall see.

I am hooked on Fluval Edge builds, the box of water captivates.

I have seen some flexible LED "Dioder" strips from IKEA, not actinic quality or anything I would not imagine, but may make the "look" more blue without spending an arm and a leg for LED lighting, and you could bend it around the lip inside the hood.

Looks good, keep the pictures coming!

Cheers

It has been a while, here is the latest crappy camera phone picture. I had to move my office a couple months ago and it was so easy moving 6 gallons compared to 100. There are a total of 4 fish in there now, and various easy corals.
