Fluval Edge aquariums

Getting my own office (w/ a large window woot!) at work soon and am considering one of these. I know they aren't ideal to clean but I love that they are covered and I wouldn't have to worry as much about evap.

Anyone else have one up and running? What do you like/dislike about it if so?

I know someone w one their actually is a decent ammount of evap and thle air bubbles that collect at the top will drive u insane i know how ocd u are im the same way . Hah ane u cant put any corals in it ....booooooooo.

Dr f n s has 2 nice 3g picos w clamp light that look good they are rimless and way cheaper than a fluval they go for 42 to 48 bucks. Do it up

Lol, you called it w/ the OCD. I was initially looking at the Picotope 3g on F&S but while reading a ton of DIY mods on here I kept seeing people rigging up ATO's for them. You've got a valid point with the air bubbles so perhaps I can find a DIY ATO that wouldn't keep me up worrying at night on weekends.

Get the 3g drill it put a 10g sump under ur desk and get a small MH light on it wiht a auto top off pack it w sps and call it a day

Btw im not joking it woukd b sick ;)

Haha, I was thinking Yasha/shrimp combo with zoas, shrooms & acan. I can see them trying to hand me an electric bill if I get too crazy with it. I'll wait for them all to get hooked and then try to talk 'em into a big one for the reception area. ;)

I did a lot of reading about them (modifications, complaints, etc) when I thought about setting one up. A few people over in the Nano Reefs forum swapped the stock halogen bulbs with LEDs and kept softys. Another person put a 2x18w T5 over it and keeps LPS and Zoas.

The biggest complaints are that it overflows when you put your arm into it, also that it has little flow and running a powerhead can get a little tricky.

It's a cool little AIO but obviously needs some DIY to stock with corals. I like the idea of a mini cube drilled with a small sump, cheap and effective! :)

Ooohh... lovin' that mini cube. Saved the link to favorites so I can keep that handy. I definately don't want a PITA tank at work so the Edge is pretty much ruled out now. If I go with a small sump as you guys suggest then that'll possibly give me a little more play with evaporation. I could always get a glass top to put on for the weekends too. I just want to keep the water volume small enough that I can easily maintain it w/ 1g water changes 1 or 2 times a week.

Yea I was curious on whether a sump would actually be a big benefit in such a small DT but good point on helping with the water evap.

They do look cool, but I am not a fan. I like the rimless nano tank. If you like the fluval tanks, I suggest waiting. They are coming out with a line of new nano kits.

Intriguing... Do you know if any are rimless or all similar design to what's already out there?

The rimless tanks have been out for a while. I run a few of them. The new fluval tanks are not going to be hitting the US market for a while from what I was told.

Mel,

MarinA tank kits. in the box. the pic on the box, shows a tank with a fuuugly rim. the rim is not connected to the tank. it just literally sits on it. just take it right off, and BAM. rimless! and the glass underneath is polished.

Dan, Do you have a link you could post or pm me? Please :)

Just got the A-ok from the head honcho to go ahead and do this. Woot!

Have you seen these?

I think they are gorgeous and at aprox. 24 gal might be a bit more than you want. But they have ATO, skimmer, etc built in already. They are rimless. Even a decent light that would look great in an office setting.

Anyway, grats on the office space!
