i wanted to know if the Fluval FX5 is any good? cuz i just bought one.
i was wondering if it would be a good idea to connect my aqua uvlight 15w with my fluval or is there another way i cango about this thanks?
wait...you're asking if its good AFTER you bought it? just kiddin, but no really...i would ask first
To your question...what are you using it for? If its for a reef, then no, not really...and you just spent a bunch of money for something thats pretty much only good for carbon/phosban/whatever (no biomedia). And if its fowlr, well then its still not needed cuz you have live rock for filtration already anyways...no point.
If its a fish only tank...thats the only time i'd even consider a canister for my bio-filtration (breaking down amonia). Otherwise, its all in the live rock for the most part (and sand)
The Fluval is a good canister filter. They make good products, imo. Although I'm not the biggest fan of canisters in general. Like sir_dude said, if you have enough live rock then you won't need the bio or mechanical media. They will also just trap detritus and cause nitrate probs. I would just run carbon and use it for flow.
I'm running two fluval 404's mainly because they were lying around and worked for the sump/refugium turnover. I stripped them of their foam inserts and filled the containers with small live rock... every few months I clean the impellers and take a look at the world of sponges and dark dwelling critters in there. It's a science experiment. but works for me.
what if i just use my 404 as flow? take out everything in there just put sponges and thats it and connect it with my uv light is that ok? at the same time my fluval FX5 will be running
