Fluval Spec V Nano(5 gallon)

Started the tank on Black Friday(Nov.29) this past year so in 7 days it'll be 2 months old. For mods on the tank, I cut the stock foam filter in half leaving one of the media inserts and running Chemipure and some other type of media(can't remember it's early) and the top part of the over flow is a mini-fuge with chaeto and macro(about 4 inches of space). Stock pump was replaced and modded with a much stronger pump turbojet or something. Nano heater(expensive -_-). And a Fluval Sea LED full spectrum 25w 22", yea it hangs over about an inch on both sides but the actual lights are EXACTLY the same length of the tank, great growth so far.

I started off with adding about 1.75-2 inches of live sand from a buddies tank he had running for around a year that was still pretty clean. I got plenty of LR from one of my LFS that I could imagine would give me the look I was going for as I wanted a great view from both sides.

Tank has a pretty big CUC with many different types of snails and crabs, one fish a green clown goby, a peppermint shrimp(wife bought him -_-) and my favorite a pom pom crab that dropped its anemones in exchange for a lunar eclipse and a red PE.

Now to pics.

Picked up 3 polyps of Golden Darth Mauls for $9 bucks at my LFS, they were selling a colony for $150 of like 15 polyps and asked by chance if they frag off one that was by itself on the piece of dead coral, instead they found a loose piece with this three and still let me have it for $10(they have $10, $20, $35, $45, $55) frag tanks depending on size and quality LOL

Thanks, I just pulled out all the montis except for my encrusting purple with blue polyps to make room for some acro frags instead and going to rearrange the rock work to have a little bit of sand bottom at the front of the tank, running out of room LOL

Ordered a nuvo16 today, going to cycle it for a couple weeks and then introduce all my livestock from the fluval. Got lots of new ZOA's, rastas, goblins on fire, armor of god, god of war, and more I'm not gonna list becuz lazy lol. I did add two stalks of mangroves that had huge rooting on them that I picked up frombmy LFS for $5.

Picking up a AI Nano with new style controller this weekend for the Nuvo16. I hope I get the results that I'm looking for and will enjoy this next setup a lot more than the Spec V. Don't get me wrong the Spec V is a great 5g nano but I feel I can't ever get it just right, with my zoa garden growing by new types of zoas/palys every couple days I'm running out of room fast and the lights just don't do them justice although I'm getting great growth, so time to go a little bigger and better. :)

I'm getting 2 Orbit Marine(CurrentUSA) LED strips instead of the AI SOL, the one I was going to buy for a hook up was a old *** unit.

Yep, I can't say someone with a deeper tank would get good/better results but I have SPS and LPS in the tank also and they are all happy and growing rapidly. My Nuvo16 comes in next week sometime depending on weather. I'm kind of mixed on my next step with lighting, I ordered a Nuvo with the 2 8w Skkye led lights and they are supposedly 14k spectrum but I want a fully controllable full spectrum light. I also went ahead and ordered a AquaC Nano Remora S HOB skimmer, tired of messing around with the air stone skimmers and heard great things about it.

Besides the new tank equipment I'm hopefully picking up a 20+ polyp colony of purple hornets, 6 polyp frag of utter chaos, and 3 polyps of jason fox bloodshots this weekend from a buddy.

Awesome, post pics of the new set up when you get it, im still trying to figure out what lights i want on my fluval spec 5 gal setup

What kind of lighting do u have for your mini fuge chaeto?

The Fluval light strip hand over and lights the fuge area also, not really the ideal spectrum but the stuff ain't dying lol

Well my Nuvo16 came in today, before I got home from work I ran by the LFS and picked up 15# of tonga branch and a 20# bag of caribsea reef sand....only to open the tank box to find a broken tank, pedestal, and even the pump was broken >=|

on top of the broken crap the Skkye lights weren't even in the box as listed.

I'm so damn mad right now.
