Elan, I have that info in my notes from the board meeting. I just need to find my notes!
I will post it later.

Also, can you bring the chiller to the swap for me?
TIA

Elan the demonstrations are:
Rogger will show how to make his food at 11:00 am
he will also be selling it

No offense, I like your guy's club, but it is just not fair for us people who are in Palm Beach County. I would love to join FMAS, but all of the meetings and events are at least an hour away from me, which is just a little to far.

When PBMAS had their frag swap in January, they originally planned to do the same thing that you guys are doing. It was $35 to get in, but that included a membership to PBMAS. Many people on this forum complained because it was basically my situation, but the other way around. You guys were in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, the frag swap was in Boynton Beach. If some of you live in Broward and Dade I doubt you would like to join a club that is in Palm Beach. Because of this, PBMAS changed it to $5 to get in; although, people were still given the option to join for $35 if they wanted to.

Can the same be done for the FMAS frag swap?

I agree 100%.

I really want to go. I also have a friend and my dad who wants to go to check for any frags they want.
The issue is $20 for each of them is too much(I guess I can get in for $10 as a student). On top of the $20, its an hour drive for us, and they don't find it worth the money and drive.

If you charge less to come in, you WILL get more people, guaranteed!
More people= more frags and money being spent

If you keep it the same, I doubt I will go without my buddy and my day, so that $50 right there that your out on; plus all these other people talking about the same thing.

just some food for thought

The entry fee's go to the club for various events. I am not sure if you have been to a FMAS frag swap before, but you are going to find INCREDIBLE corals at extremely low prices, tons of vendors including WWC and Coral Reef Farm!! If they are not sure the $20 entry is going to be worth it, I am sure they will have a different mindset when people start posting pics and prices on here after the swap.

Think of the $20 to be equivalent to hundreds of dollars in savings off of name brand corals and going to a good cause.

You really have a good point. We made the same argument back in January about the PBMAS frag swap and they changed the fees. It was a very good juster. It seems only fair. Maybe the PMBAS President can call FMAS and work out a fee for anyone that is a MAS member.

I personally would like a cheaper rate for non-members because I have some friends in town this weekend and I would like to bring them.

At some of the past frag swaps we offered 1/2 price admission/membership to members of out-of-town clubs who came down. Maybe someone on the frag swap committee can tell us if that's been discussed for this event.

Making this event exclusive to club members is by design. It's a huge incentive for our casual members to get up to date with their club dues, which fund club activities for the rest of the year. Our club had 300+ members last year, and the vast majority paid their dues to be sure they could participate in the swap. IIRC, we only run the swap and the turtle release as "member-only" activities each year.

If you're buying anything at all, the great deals can easily offset the cost. If you happen to sell or trade a frag, you'll come out ahead.

I just joined FMAS. I paid the $10 through my Paypal account. I was hoping that someone could perhaps verify that the payment went through, and that I am in fact a member now. Only reason I ask is because after I paid once it prompted me to pay again lol.

Tony44 - you still have that Reeflo? If so, can you post your contact info - I might be interested in picking it up at the swap if you would still like to sell it / still have it.

thanks,
-Mike C.

I still have it but it looks like I will be keeping it. I'll definitely let you know if that changes though.

Tony44 - alright let me know

Also, anyone know yet what is the earliest we can be at the swap to setup?

thanks,
-Mike C.
