Foam in between tank and stand

Couple questions for you guys here. I built a stand for my new tank and it is out of 2x6's with a 3/4" plywood top. Of course my stand isn't perfect. There is slight inperfections in the plywood so I was thinking of putting foam inbetween the tank and stand.

Now here is the question. It is a glass tank with plastic trim can this tank be set on foam? Also how thick of foam should I use. The thin foam I have is about 1/8 inch thick but not as big as the bottom of the tank so I would have to break it down into four pieces. I can get one big piece of 1/2" thick foam but I was woried it would be too thick and put pressure on the glass.

I used thin foam between the stand and floor so that it would make up for the concrete but I still want something on the stand so any thoughts are welcome.

Do not use foam on plastic rimmed tanks, only acrylic.

I would take the foam out from underneath the stand it will only compress to nothing over time and possible will hold moisture. Grab a level and get some hotwater heater shims, they are plastic and very sturdy. Have someone help you readign the level while you shim.

Ditch the foam.

the stand is level w/o the foam but I put it there any way just to make up for the wood imperfections.
Will the plastic make up for the imperfections on top of the stand?

I don't know where you got your tank, but I know that glass cages requires foam under the tank (I think it has to be 3/4" thick), even if it is glass. No foam = no warranty for them. I personally would go with the foam...IMO it helps compensate for any imperfections or slightly off-levelness.

If it is a AGA, Oceanic, or any other Name brand tanks.. You Do NOT want to use Foam.. If is a Custom made tank all Glass bottom (like from Glass Cages) then You should use foam under it.

Name brand tanks are held up by the out side plastic trim. and need to us shim to level the tank.

there is no off levelness of the tank or stand it just doesnt touch in everysingle spot. I'm not trying to level the tank or stand just to make that clear but I see what you guys are saying

If I remember correctly what I read- the trim pushes down on the foam causing the center part of it to push up on the tank bottom causing stress on the bottom of the glass.

This is correct.

No foam under plastic trimmed tanks. Only use foam under glass and acrylic untrimmed tanks.
