Foam under tanks??

Do you all put foam under your tanks? If so any one have like a 2'x2' section they could spare? I really dont want to buy a huge sheet. I would just be throwing the rest away. Thanks Chris

I did just because GC said to and I didn't want any reason for them to say no if something went wrong. :)

Its cheap. I had to throw mine away as no one else needed any at the time.

Would something else work besides foam? You would be able to see it under my tank as the trim does not cover it.

I'm not sure how well an alternative may or may not work, but foam is the way to go. Personally my foam shows now, but ONE DAY I'll get around to putting an extra piece of trim up to hide it. :)

How much trim space are you working with? None?
I'm sure you can find something thinner than the exterior insulation foam a lot of people use from Lowe's/HD (Tyvek?).

I think they also sell white styrofoam that is closer to 1/2" thick. I also think you might be able to find 1/4" somewhere, but I can't really say.

If you want to try to hide the foam, you should be aware that regular spray paint will melt normal styrofoam unless you do very thin layers spraying from pretty far away (so the paint does not get the foam really wet). I'm not sure what is responsible for the reaction, but I know from experience that it will melt it. I don't know if latex spray paint would be any better/worse or not.

We covered our foam with black contact paper from HomeDepot and you can't even tell it is there (plus it is water proof). Not a bad option for $5 IMO.
