Foaming- Styrofoam?

Has anyone tried or heard of someone gluing styrofoam to the back of the tank before foaming to create out- croppings and suspended shelves?
 
practice first, but yea, i've seen some pretty amazing tanks. you can also use spray foam insulation to make some pretty good shapes
