Follow me on my first reef -- 45 gallon acrylic cube (picture intense)

Hi Adam -

I just wanted to tell you that I, for one, actually READ your entire first post, so I won't be asking any questions that you have already covered... ;) :D

I am in the same boat you were a couple of years ago. I am in my "research phase" and have a LONG way to go. My first tank will be HUGE, so, I really appreciate your well thought out and researched tank writeup. Your decisions make total sense to me and were clearly based on a wealth of consolidated information.

Good luck! Your tank is lovely so far and I can't wait to see how it matures.

Take it easy,

roper512,

how much thought have you given that sandbed?

from the pics it doesn't look quite deep enough to be a DSB and way too deep to be a SSB.

I ask this question as when I started my tank a SSB was considered 2" deep. Now it is considered 1/2" or less. My tank is a little over a year old and I am seeing problems with the sandbed that I have and I am vacuuming out a little at a time every week trying to get it down to 1/2" but I don't think I will be able to get to all of it.

just wanted to make sure that you have given this some thought as it can cause major problems if you aren't careful. My problems aren't out of hand but they easily could be for someone with little experience.

The more times I see you guys w/ your cubes the more I like them ... I kinda dig the big cylinders too. I think they just look better w/ rockwork scultpture in them---cant afford them though
