Food choices for Anthias

I recently added 3 Ignitus Anthias and plan to add 2 more and want to make sure they are getting a well rounded diet.

They seem to eat frozen spirulina loaded brine and frozen PE Mysis really well but do not show much interest in New Life Spectrum .5mm pellets. I have seen them take the pellets in just to spit them back out.

What else should I feed, and how complete is a diet of spirulina loaded brine/pe Mysis?

Forgot to mention; I also have frozen LRS Reef Frenzy "nano" on hand but haven't tried feeding. It is difficult to get cut up into small enough pieces, It is like it is one big sheet of clam. I intend to try a razor blade but haven't yet.

I used to feed mine SanFrancisco Bay Brand Cyclops. If you mix it with brine you can get several feedings from one thaw. Mine liked to eat several times a day.

I feed mine Frozen Mysis and Krill. Formula 2 pellets and New Era Pellets. They also like Cobalt CA Mysis flakes. You should try the LRS.

Whatever you get them to eat, make sure you offer it in small portions a few times a day.

Getting anthias to eat pellets is more miss than hit. Some, Lyretails and Bartlett, will generally eat them after a while, most other species will not. LRS is a good option, as is Rods. Mine love sushi/masago roe.

My resplendant anthias eat: shredded salmon, live white worms, calanus, capelin roe, mysis and assorted frozen blends

I no longer keep anthias, but I have just started raising white worms for my butterflies. If you have a cool place it is easier than I had imagined.

can you get capelin roe that is not dyed and seasoned? do you have a source for that?

LRS sells fish eggs. I used to worry about the dyed and seasoned sushi roe, but it's obviously food grade and appears to do no harm so I don't any more. It may actually function as an attractant (like the garlic so many people seem to swear by :)) since my fish find it irresistible.

Mine have been eating LRS reef frenzy. I just get some tank water in a small cup and drop a chunk in there for a minute or 2, then I chop it up a little with a fork. Lyretail anthias FWIW

I just found out my new Anthias love Bulk Reef Supply Reef Chili!

I am surprised at how they went crazy for it, the pieces are tiny.

The secret to getting anthias to eat pellets ime is just to feed them a little of it everyday as their first meal.
Proceed to fatten them up with mysis, brine, flakes and other foods. Then when they're fat, sometimes don't feed them for a day and feed them pellets next day.

If they get hungry enough they usually learn to eat pellets. It could take a very long time. My sunburst anthias didn't eat pellets for a year.
All my other anthias eats everything I throw in there. You're doing it right with the .5mm, it's the best size for them

It also helps to have other fish around that eat the pellets. Give some with their normal food, they'll get the idea sooner or later!
