food for corals?

do I need to feed them (do they need more than lights?) if yes, then what exactly. specifically, this is for leather coral, star polyps, and mushrooms. tks.

Yes, food is necessary, but it differs from coral to coral. Star Polyps and Leathers generally need little additional feeding, but Phytoplankton is a good option. Mushrooms prefer a little more meatier fare. Stuff like Mysid Shrimp and Vitamin Enriched Brine Shrimp will be more ideal. Regardless, feeding should be done, but not enough to jeopordize your tanks water quality.

ive never fed any mushroom ive ever had, and i cant get them to stop growing and spreading. IMO mushrooms dont need to be fed.

you need to be more specific. some mushrooms don't actively eat big stuff like brine(actinodiscus). some do(rhodactis).

some gorgs and some big zoos will eat meat. leathers don't need any supplemental feeding and neither do GSP's even though they are gorg-like

bottom line: ID the mushrooms and in general, no, you don't have to feed what you have there.

IMO, phytoplankton is a useless option. It just adds dead/dying plant material to feed algae growth. scrape your glass with a razorblade once a week to dose phytoplankton and save your money for good test kits or salt or something.
