Nice photos so far

Love the cupcake shot! That looks delicious!

Mr. Sandman, what are those?

Here's one I took for fun:

Where did you get those Mrsandman? I've eaten them while traveling through Asia and love them, but didn't know they sell here in the US.

I was in Asia for 5 weeks and just got back a few weeks ago. That one was shot in mainland China. I have yet to see those sold here in the US. I have another shot of larger (close to a foot long) mantis shrimp that i tried in Malaysia on the same trip but the presentation of that dish wasn't as nice as the one above.

Are they raw? I've only had them fried with garlic or steamed. I have to say, I think they are better than lobster.

lol, the only reason I took this picture was because I had just gotten my first DSLR and wanted to take a picture of anything I could find.

LOL. No, these definitely weren't raw. I think they were boiled. But i agree with you...once you get over the creepiness (i used to keep one as a pet) they actually are quite tasty. Pound for pound they have more flavor than lobster. The fried ones were definitely better than the boiled ones though. You should see (if you haven't yet) some of the other stuff that i saw being eaten in Asia. :eek2:

I would love to see what else you've been eating. Unfortunately, I havent been to Asia in at least 6 years and I wasnt doing photography back then. But I loved all the strange and delicious stuff over there.

Just to make it clear, i never said that i was eating all this stuff. Just saw it. :spin2: Asia is awesome, especially Hong Kong. There are so many photographic opportunities to be had there. I've been there 3 times in the last year alone.

Anyways, I don't want to derail this thread any more than i have already so i won't post the pics here. But if you want to see some of the other stuff i initially posted the pics in the mantis forum since i was interested in an ID of the things. Check it out here with pics: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1777902

Ummm hi... I was wondering if I could pull a Lazerus and raise this thread from the grave??
Right now all I have is my camera, and if I am home, my tripod. So no lighting or anything like that... all though I am looking at getting some equipment, just don't know where to start.
