Ok...new reef enthusiast here. I am assuming that the footprint found on skimmer specs indicate the "area" needed in a sump to operate. Correct me please if I am wrong.
got it....no mention though on how "high" the water level should be. I am building a custom sump and the input area will be 12" tall. I will build it according to the "footprint" listed from the manufacturer.
Go 14-15" tall for the sump if possible. It will lessen any splashing into the cabinet, and allow you to run more water through it. More water equals more stability.
