For $99000 + $550 of shipping you can get this King Kong.

Just curious as I have never tried it. But couldn't you get similar results a lot cheaper with a telescope and a camera mount? I know it wouldn't be L quality glass but would it work?
 
This lens has been around for a long time. There are only ~10 in circulation around the world. Sports Illustrated owns two of them.

They nominal prices are ~USD$80'000 and are made to order in Japan.

Google and find the article/photos where they tested this lens on an XL-1 with the EF-XL1 lens mount converter that gives 9x crop-factor.
