For all you anthais experts, mixing P. flavoguttatus and P. aurulentus

Thought I would update the study group...Sadly all perished. The two that were eating well in early June became one after three weeks...the one that perished had looked kind of funny all along, sort of a big head and pinched tummy. I suspected that whatever he/she was eating was not doing much for him/her, weird. I don't know enough about fish to make an educated guess about what happened. The lone flavo looked good, continued to eat well until 6 days ago. Then just stopped eating and hung out in the rocks or back corner. Nothing had changed in the tank. I suspect it perished as I have not seen it for the last two days at all :(. That was a big bummer and an expensive failure. I rarely lose fish once I get them going for a month or more so the final one perishing was a complete surprise.
Sorry to hear that. We recently got more of them. With a lone and huge aurulentus, they seem ok. Besides of the few that perished during first week, the rest seem ok. They are eating smaller mysis and spirulina brine.

I have a single male P. aurulentus in my tank currently. He is growing and starting to show some beautiful little yellow streamers on his tail...anyways I digress :). I am planning on adding a group of P. flavoguttatus as well. I am pretty sure the anthias will all get along but thought I would throw it out here for any and all thoughts. My P. aurulentus is really quite peaceful and mellow, always out, and always getting plenty of food when it is feeding time. I am aware of the nature of the P. flavoguttatus and the finicky/delicate nature of the fish. I think they will do well in my tank as tankmates are all peaceful and mellow.

Aurulentus hangs out with bartletts in the wild.... maybe you should get 3-4 more of the aurulentus and maybe 4-5 bartletts.... That would be nice!

The flavo is still hanging in there, acting just as described in above posts, hanging vertical in the corner, she was hidden for 3 days and then appeared today in the corner again. I have not seen her take any food thus far,5 days, not sure if she nibbled while in hiding but I doubt it. I am keeping her in a nano with a pair of clowns that rarely leave their Rose so it is very mellow. She was previously eating with gusto.

Chooch1, I have noticed the same thing with groups of anthias...a lot of attrition over time.

scubarob, I purchased 8 anthias from LA that will be coming next week to go into the main tank with the P. aurulentus.

Peter, you inspired me :D I ordered 3 randalls, 3 ignitus, and a male and female resplendent. It should be interesting to see how things go. I originally had a trio of the arulentus and both the females perished within a few months. They were pretty shy and hidden a lot but the male was a stud and continues to be very active and healthy in the tank. I hope this does not repeat with the new group coming in.

My little gal is still hanging in there, hanging in the rocks and came out when food was flying around but I am having a hard time telling if she was really eating or not.

Just received 6 new anthias for the main tank...the Randalls were unavailable :( at this time and may come at a later date. we shall see. Acclimating so I am not even sure how they are doing, still floating in the sump. I am off to open the bags and see what is what :).

Have you tried prawn eggs or arctic pods? One thing I did notice with some of the finicky anthias is that most of time they only "aggressively" eat what they know is food. I tried very small pellets first sometimes and they act like "What? I know there is food but where is it?"
